Angels - work in progress 

I started work on this painting in 2022 at the same time as I was reworking 'Memento Mori' and they have quite a lot in common. These pictures are developed around an image which is more or less going to stay in the same place as the composition develops. Although 'Angels' is painted onto a cool grey ground the two paintings both ended up looking quite dark, this is because I was hoping to create an effect of gloom so at first sight an observer doesn't necessarily realise what he or she is looking at, and as contemplation continues the angels and other details begin to emerge.
